Saxby Park Fenced Dog Park in Taree is a brilliantly equipped, 24/7 off-leash hub right in the middle of town. With separate zones for big and small dogs, solid agility gear, and proper nighttime lighting, it’s got everything you need for a great run after work. Just a heads up, though: despite the name, the park is only partially fenced, and the back boundary down to the creek is wide open.

Dog Park Features & Amenities
For the Dogs
- Small Dog Safe Zone: Having a dedicated, fully fenced area for the little guys is a huge win. It means tiny or timid pups can play without the stress of bigger dogs bowling them over.
- Awesome Agility Course: The main dog section includes proper hurdles and obstacles. It’s fantastic for keeping smart, working breeds mentally engaged.
- Fresh Water on Tap: There is a reliable drinking fountain right on-site, so you don’t have to carry a heavy bottle on your walk.
For the Humans
- Evening Lighting: This is a massive feature. The nighttime lighting means you can comfortably and safely walk your dog after work, even in the middle of winter.
- Plenty of Shade: Mature trees cast great natural shade over the seating areas, so you won’t bake in the summer sun while watching your dog.
- BYO Poo Bags: While there are bins available, the council doesn’t reliably stock poo bags here. Make sure you bring your own so you don’t add to the “landmines” that frustrate some of the locals!
CRITICAL Safety Warning: Do not unclip your dog’s leash until you are securely inside the inner gates! The very back perimeter of the park, which leads straight down to Browns Creek, has no fence at all. If your dog has a high prey drive or spotty recall, they could easily wander off into the scrub or the neighbour’s yards.
The Final Verdict
Saxby Park Fenced Dog Park boasts some of the best infrastructure on the MidCoast. The lighting, agility gear, and separate size zones show that the council really understands what dog owners need. It is held back slightly by the open creek boundary and the occasional lazy owner not picking up waste, but if you stick to the inner pens and bring your own bags, it’s a brilliant, highly functional park for Taree residents.
