Often described as a “pooch paradise,” the Rose Bay Foreshore is one of Sydney’s best dog-friendly beaches, offering a place for pups to enjoy the sand and water. The designated 24/7 off-leash area is a beautiful stretch of sand and water where the gentle, shallow harbour is perfect for dogs of all sizes and swimming abilities to have a safe splash.

Key Park Features & Amenities

To make the most of this incredibly popular spot, it’s crucial to know the specific off-leash boundaries, as the adjacent Percival Park is dog-prohibited. While bags are provided, you must bring your own water, and be prepared to find parking on the busy main road.

For the Dogs:

  • CRITICAL SAFETY WARNING: Unfenced Beach with Strict Boundaries. This is an unfenced beach. The off-leash area is strictly the stretch of sand and water located between Dumaresq Reserve and Percival Park. The adjacent Percival Park is a dog-prohibited area.
  • Gentle Harbour Swimming: The gentle, shallow harbour water is perfect for dogs of all sizes and swimming abilities to have a safe splash and cool off on a warm day.
  • Bring Your Own Water: You must bring your own water and a portable bowl to keep your dog hydrated.
  • Poo Bag Dispensers: You’ll find poo bag dispensers at the access points, but it’s always wise to have a spare.

For the Humans:

  • Street Parking: Parking is available on the busy New South Head Road.
  • Waste Bins: Conveniently located waste bins help to keep the popular beach clean.
  • Vibrant Social Scene: This is an incredibly popular and social spot, perfect for meeting other local dogs and their owners.

Insider Tip: Grab a Coffee from The Boathouse

The beach is located right next to the Rose Bay promenade, which has several dog-friendly cafes. It’s the perfect spot to grab a takeaway coffee from The Boathouse and enjoy it on the beach while your dog plays.
