1. The Bay Run (Iron Cove)
Arguably Sydney’s most popular harbourside loop, The Bay Run is a fantastic, mostly flat circuit around Iron Cove. It’s a bustling shared pathway perfect for a good leg stretch with your canine companion. You’ll pass through several lovely parks and enjoy constant water views, and for dogs that love a splash, there are multiple small, sandy coves along the way perfect for a paddle. It’s a social hub for walkers, joggers, cyclists, and fellow dog owners!
Quick Facts:
- Location: Circling Iron Cove (Rozelle, Lilyfield, Haberfield, Five Dock, Russell Lea, Drummoyne)
- Length: Approx. 7km loop
- Difficulty: Easy (Mostly flat, paved shared pathway)
- Leash Rules: **On-leash required** on the main pathway itself. Some adjacent parks have designated off-leash areas (e.g., Hawthorne Canal Reserve).
- Highlights: Continuous water views, several sandy coves for water access and a paddle, connects multiple parks, cafes nearby, well-maintained path, water stations available.
2. Centennial Parklands Grand Drive & Tracks
While famous for its vast off-leash areas, Centennial Parklands also offers wonderful *on-leash* walking opportunities along its network of paths, including the main loop, Grand Drive. Stroll past picturesque ponds (keep pups out of the water!), admire the diverse birdlife, and enjoy the beautifully maintained gardens and sprawling lawns. It’s a fantastic place for a controlled walk combined with some off-leash fun in the designated zones before or after.

3. Glebe Foreshore Walk
This fantastic stretch of waterfront path offers stunning views across Blackwattle Bay towards the Anzac Bridge and city skyline. Starting near Bicentennial Park in Glebe (itself a great off-leash spot), the walk meanders along the water’s edge, connecting several green spaces. Much of this foreshore walk is designated off-leash, making it a rare treat where your dog can often trot alongside you unleashed while you soak in the harbour views. It’s a popular and scenic route for Inner West dog owners.
Quick Facts:
- Location: Glebe / Annandale (Inner West), along Rozelle Bay & Blackwattle Bay
- Length: Variable, approx. 2km+ one way from Bicentennial Park towards Pyrmont

- Highlights: Excellent harbour and Anzac Bridge views, connects multiple off-leash parks (Bicentennial Park, Blackwattle Bay Park), waterside access in parts, relatively flat path.
4. Lake Parramatta Reserve Trails
Escape the city buzz with a bushwalk around beautiful Lake Parramatta! This reserve offers a peaceful retreat with several marked walking trails looping around the lake through native bushland. It’s a fantastic opportunity for you and your leashed dog to enjoy nature, sniff out new smells, and get some good exercise on undulating paths. Remember to stick to the marked trails and keep your pup leashed to protect the local wildlife.
