Beach Street Reserve Fenced Dog Park (Tuncurry)

If you need a fenced puppy play area, this is the pick of the bunch in the Forster and Tuncurry area. It’s a social leash-free reserve with a proper canine agility course with jumps and tunnels, plus a separate zone just for small or timid dogs. It sits near the rockpool, which makes it an easy stop for a family day out.

Insider Tip: There are filtered water stations inside the park. Just check the bottom clearance of the entry gates before unclipping tiny dogs, as small gaps can appear.

Dolphin Park Crescent Reserve Fenced Dog Park in Harrington

Dolphin Park Crescent Reserve (Harrington)

After a round of upgrades, this 24/7 park is now fully fenced and well set up. It has good canine agility course equipment and fresh water stations, making it the safest place in Harrington for your dog to burn off energy. A hard-sealed concrete path runs from the car park straight to the gates, so it’s easy to reach with a wheelchair or pram.

Insider Tip: Use the agility equipment here for focused training, away from the distractions of the open beaches. Public toilets are near the bus stop.

Saxby Park Fenced Dog Park (Taree)

Saxby Park is a well-used urban spot in Taree. It has a separate internal fenced zone for small breeds and proper agility hurdles, plus nighttime lighting, which helps on winter evenings. One thing to know: the internal play pens are fenced, but the rear boundary facing Browns Creek is open.

Insider Tip: Don’t unclip the leash until you’re securely inside the inner gates. The open creek boundary at the back is a real flight risk for dogs with high prey drive.

Coastal Freedom: All Off-Leash Beaches

The MidCoast is known for its coastline. From wide 4WD corridors to quiet, hidden bays, these off-leash dog beach spots are hard to beat. Most have strict timeshare hours, so read the signs.

One Mile Beach Dog Off Leash Area in Forster

One Mile Beach (Forster)

📍 Address: 122 Strand Street, Forster NSW 2428

The northern end of One Mile Beach is a wide run of deep white sand. There’s a new step-free boardwalk, so it’s easy to reach with a wheelchair or pram. Note the strict times: off-leash play is only allowed from 5am to 9am and 5pm to 8pm. Outside those hours, dogs must be on a lead.

Insider Tip: Set your navigation for the Forster Golf Club car park so you reach the correct off-leash northern zone. The southern end is strictly on-leash.

Boomerang Beach (Pacific Palms)

Boomerang Beach is a well-known surf spot. The southern and mid sections are off-leash during the standard timeshare hours (5-9am and 5-8pm). The council provides good waste facilities here, and it’s a great spot for a high-energy morning run beside clear surf.

Insider Tip: The forest behind the sand looks inviting, but it’s part of Booti Booti National Park. Dogs aren’t allowed in the bushland, which protects the local wildlife.

Other MidCoast Dog Beaches:

Bennetts Beach (Hawks Nest): A 3.8-kilometre stretch with dawn-to-dusk off-leash play. Watch for 4WD traffic.
Sandbar / Cellito Beach (Smiths Lake): A remote spot reached via a rainforest boardwalk (timed access applies).

Pipers Bay Foreshore Reserve (Forster)

This scenic leash-free reserve has flat grass and easy access to the still waters of Pipers Creek. It’s much quieter than the ocean beaches and has clean public toilets, which makes it a good route for a morning stroll.

Insider Tip: There are no fresh water taps on the grass, so always bring a bottle to keep your dog hydrated. Pack insect repellent in summer too, as the mosquitoes like the tidal creek.

Brambles Reserve (Tarbuck Bay)

Right on Smiths Lake, this 6am to 8pm off-leash area has sloping grass and calm, warm water for a swim. It shares the space with an active boat ramp, so it suits dogs that listen well. The picnic tables and BBQs make it an easy waterside spot for the day.

Insider Tip: Keep your dog well clear of the concrete incline to avoid accidents with reversing boat trailers. Bring your own drinking water so they don’t drink the estuarine lake water.
