Sydney’s Northern Beaches Dog Beaches: 2026 Guide
Whenever my dog and I need a proper day of adventure, we head to the Northern Beaches. It’s a true haven for outdoorsy pups and their people, packed with an incredible variety of off-leash havens where they can swim, run, and socialise to their heart’s content. The key here is knowing the difference between the ocean beaches (mostly off-limits) and the calm, protected waters of the lagoons and Pittwater Bay, which are perfect for a paddle.
This region is just one of the amazing areas we cover in our Ultimate Guide to Sydney’s Dog-Friendly Beaches.
Bayview Dog Beach (Rowland Reserve): The Social Hub
Location & Vibe: Nestled on the shores of Pittwater, Rowland Reserve is the crown jewel of the Northern Beaches dog scene. I’d describe it as a pup’s dream come true; the vibe is incredibly social and friendly, a bustling hub where dogs of all sizes mingle on the large grassy park and splash in the calm bay waters.
Rules: Simple and perfect: the entire designated reserve and the adjacent tidal sand flats are 24/7 off-leash.

Curl Curl Lagoon Dog Beach (Flora and Ritchie Roberts Reserve): The Grassy Expanse
Location & Vibe: This reserve is a paradise for dogs with boundless energy. The main attraction is the huge, sprawling grassy terrain, perfect for a serious game of fetch. The reserve provides access to the southern side of Curl Curl Lagoon for a calm paddle.
Rules: The reserve and designated parts of the lagoon are off-leash 24/7, all year round. It is vital to know that dogs are strictly prohibited from the main North Curl Curl ocean beach.
Manly Lagoon (Queenscliff): The 24/7 Playground
Location & Vibe: At the northern end of Manly Beach, this spot is a world away from the busy surf. It’s a vast landscape of sand and grass, an enormous playground for energetic dogs who need a good run.
Rules: Another one with beautifully simple rules. The designated areas of Manly Lagoon Park and Lagoon Park West are 24/7 off-leash, and dogs are welcome to paddle in the calm lagoon waters.

Insider Tip: For a perfect end to the day, take a short drive to the Brookvale Arts District. This emerging area is home to several fantastic dog-inclusive breweries, including the award-winning Bucketty’s Brewing Co., where you and your pup can relax with a craft beer.
