In Forster: The Best Local Spots
Forster is famous for its crystal clear water and stunning coastlines. While the town itself lacks a fully enclosed dog fence, its natural playgrounds are world class. Just ensure your dog’s recall is ready for the open environment.
One Mile Beach (Northern End)
π Address: 122 Strand Street, Forster NSW 2428
This is the premium off-leash dog beach experience in Forster. The northern end provides deep, soft sand and brilliant rolling surf. The council recently installed a step-free boardwalk, making it highly accessible for wheelchairs and prams. Note the strict times: off-leash is permitted only from 5 am to 9 am, and 5 pm to 8 pm. Outside these hours, dogs must be on a lead.
Insider Tip: Do not just type “One Mile Beach” into your GPS, or you might end up at the southern (on-leash only) end. Set your navigation for the Forster Golf Club car park to ensure you access the correct off-leash northern zone.

Pipers Bay Foreshore Reserve
π Address: 10 Pipers Bay Drive, Forster NSW 2428
If your pup prefers calm water over crashing waves, this is your spot. This scenic leash-free reserve offers flat grass and easy access to the still waters of Pipers Creek. It is much quieter than the ocean beaches and features clean public toilets. It serves as a fantastic dog-friendly walking trail for a morning stroll.
Insider Tip: There are no fresh water taps on the grass here. Always bring a bottle to keep your dog hydrated, and pack insect repellent in summer as the mosquitoes love the tidal creek area.
Across the Bridge: Tuncurry Safety
Forster residents often cross the bridge to Tuncurry for the region’s top high-security parks. It is less than a five-minute drive and absolutely worth it for the peace of mind.
Beach Street Reserve Fenced Park (Tuncurry)
π Address: Beach St, Tuncurry NSW 2428
If you need a fenced puppy play area, this is the best spot in the twin towns. Beach Street Reserve is fully enclosed and features a completely separate zone just for small dogs. It is a highly social hub that boasts a proper canine agility course with jumps and tunnels. After a safe run, you can clip the lead back on and enjoy a scenic stroll along the nearby breakwall.
Insider Tip: There is a filtered water station inside the park, so you do not need to haul bottles from the car. If you have a tiny teacup breed, double-check the bottom clearance of the entry gates before unclipping them.

Worth the Drive: Pacific Palms
If you are willing to drive 20 minutes south of Forster, you will find some of the most spectacular, pristine coastal runs in New South Wales.

Boomerang Beach (Pacific Palms)
π Address: 109 Boomerang Drive, Pacific Palms NSW 2428
Boomerang Beach is an iconic surfing destination that generously shares its sand with local dogs. The southern and mid sections of the beach are designated off-leash zones (strictly from 5 am to 9 am, and 5 pm to 8 pm). The council provides excellent waste facilities here, making it a very clean environment. It is an amazing spot for a high-energy morning run.
Insider Tip: The lush forest directly behind the sand looks inviting, but it is part of Booti Booti National Park. Dogs are completely prohibited in the bushland at all times, so you must keep them strictly on the sand.
For official rules, seasonal time changes, and penalty notices, always verify with the MidCoast Council website before your visit.
