Tunks Park is a large, popular off-leash destination set in a valley in the lower North Shore area. The sports fields are available for dogs when organised sport isn’t on, and the park has direct water access to the calm waters of Long Bay for dogs that like to swim. Floodlighting, an on-site car park and full facilities make it a practical choice for an after-work visit.

Key Park Features & Amenities

The park has an on-site car park, public toilets, picnic tables and a playground. Floodlighting covers the fields, making it a workable spot for evening visits year-round. Poop bag dispensers are near the main vehicle entrance on Brothers Avenue.

For the Dogs:

  • Unfenced Park with Water Access: Recall Required. The main off-leash area is not fully fenced and has direct access to the bay. Only suitable for dogs with reliable recall.
  • Conditional Off-Leash Access: Dogs are welcome off-leash on the sports fields at any time, except when the ovals are in use for organised sport.
  • Natural Water Access: A boat ramp provides direct access to the calm waters of Long Bay for a swim.
  • Poop Bags Provided: Dog bag dispensers are at the vehicle entrance off Brothers Avenue.

For the Humans:

  • Floodlighting: The fields are floodlit, making evening visits practical through winter and the shorter days.
  • On-Site Car Park: A large, dedicated car park is at the reserve.
  • Good Facilities: Public toilets, picnic tables and a children’s playground are on-site.

Insider Tip: Find the Best Spot

The ovals west of the bridge are the best spot for an off-leash run. The park gets busy on weekends with sport, so a weekday visit is usually quieter and gives you more of the field to work with.
