Secure & Fenced: The Premier Choice
If you have a dog that tends to bolt or a puppy still learning the ropes, you will likely spend most of your time at the region’s only fully enclosed facility.
Casino Dog Friendly Off-Leash Park (Casino)
📍 Address: Turning Circle off Centre Street, Casino NSW 2470
Located at Crawford Square, this is the most secure fenced puppy play area in the Richmond Valley. It features professional metal fencing and a double-gated airlock to prevent accidental escapes. The standout feature is the community “Doggy Desk” toy library (a cabinet full of spare balls). It sits right next to a playground and BMX track, making it a perfect family hub. While it doesn’t have a structured canine agility course, it offers plenty of safe, shaded space for social runs.
Insider Tip: Saturday mornings are extremely busy here due to the Farmers Market. If your dog is reactive to crowds or extra noise, try a Sunday afternoon visit instead.

Coastal & Riverside Adventures
For dogs that crave a dog-friendly walking trail or a dip in the ocean, the Richmond Valley delivers spectacular natural settings. Just remember: these areas are completely unfenced.

Airforce Beach (Evans Head)
📍 Address: Terrace St (4WD Access), Evans Head NSW 2473
Airforce Beach is a premier off-leash dog beach stretching 1.3 kilometers north from the Terrace Street access point. It is a wild, beautiful environment where dogs can sprint on firm sand and splash in the surf. However, it is a shared zone with 4WD vehicles (limited to 20km/h): so your dog must be vehicle-aware. The dunes are strictly off-limits to protect nesting shorebirds, and Rangers do actively patrol this stretch.
Insider Tip: Stick to the corridor north of the access point. Wandering south or into the dunes can lead to a $110 fine. Make sure your dog’s recall is bulletproof before letting them off the lead near the moving cars.
Coraki Riverside Park (Coraki)
📍 Address: 95 Richmond Terrace, Coraki NSW 2471
For a more tranquil pace, Coraki Riverside Park offers a scenic run along the Richmond River. This leash-free reserve (located south of the bridge) has been recently upgraded with over 1,200 native trees: providing plenty of new scents for your dog to explore. It is a fantastic spot for a family day out because of the adjacent BBQs and picnic tables, but the lack of fencing near the boat ramp means you need to stay alert.
Insider Tip: Dogs are strictly prohibited from the public swimming beach and boat ramp areas. Keep them well south of the bridge to stay within the legal off-leash boundaries.
